Ocular Toxoplasmosis: Mechanisms of Retinal Infection and Experimental Models

نویسندگان

چکیده

Ocular toxoplasmosis (OT) is caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii and affects many individuals throughout world. Infection may occur through congenital or acquired routes. The parasites enter blood circulation reach both retina retinal pigment epithelium, where they cause cell damage death. Different routes of access are used T. to endothelium: transmission inside leukocytes, as free a paracellular route, after endothelial infection. A main feature OT induction an important inflammatory state, course infection has been shown be influenced host immunogenetics. On other hand, there evidence that phenotype also impact on distribution pathology in different areas. Although considerable knowledge OT, deeper its mechanisms necessary provide new, more targeted treatment strategies. In particular, addition vitro vivo experimental models, organotypic, ex explants useful this direction.

Experimental ocular toxoplasmosis in genetically susceptible and resistant mice.

Genetic factors determining the pathogenesis and course of ocular toxoplasmosis are poorly understood. In this study, we explored the development of experimental ocular pathogenesis in genetically dissimilar mice infected with either the RH strain, the PLK strain, or the immunodominant surface antigen 1 (SAG1 [P30])-deficient mutant of the RH strain of Toxoplasma gondii. At 11 days postinfectio...

Ocular toxoplasmosis

A large amount of research has been done on toxoplasmosis in the last 30 years, and the world-wide incidence of the infection, and its clinical manifestations, are recognized and documented in an extensive literature. New discoveries concerning the life-cycle of the organism (Frenkel, I970; Hutchison, Dunachie, Siim, and Work, I970) promise to solve many of the problems of the transmission of i...
